Many people search for years to find their purpose. Elyse isn’t one of them.

Ever since she was eight years old, Elyse knew she wanted to be a mechanical engineer. And she’s living up to her potential as Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer within Stanley Black & Decker’s Outdoor Product Equipment division.

Her passion for working with her hands and her love for engineering empowered Elyse to work hard, put herself through college and land a job with Stanley Black & Decker right out of school. Assures Elyse, “nothing happens without you taking action to make things happen.” By believing in herself and focusing on her passion, Elyse takes action every day to make a difference.

I want to be known for being authentic, for not following someone else’s mold.

On her professional choice...

“I think engineers offer a lot of tangible things like designing products, but engineers also think very logically, very strategically. We’re trained into analyzing a root cause, a problem, a solution, how you get there by being analytical. I think that engineers have a lot to offer the business in terms of strategy and productivity.”

In terms of professional success, “My goal is to improve the quality of life for our users through engineering – whether that’s engineering a power tool so somebody can be more productive on the job site or solar panels so somebody can heat their water in India. The range of products that we offer is huge and I’m very excited to be a part of it.”

Taking a more inclusive approach

As the events committee chair for the Women’s Network employee resource group (ERG), Elyse realizes the benefit of inclusivity and cognitive diversity on a number of levels. “The goal of our ERGs is to make sure that the voices not just of our employees but also of our users are heard. It can be anything from cultural differences, gender differences, to even things like being left-handed and how we consider how this product affects somebody.”

Empowered by purpose

“I want to be known for being authentic, for not following somebody else’s mold and for making the world more purposeful.”
